Ah, robots. I’ll always immediately think of beautiful artificial women made of plastic and metal with electronics and computer parts inside them when I think of that word.
And speaking of my favourite depictions of robot women, I was watching some scenes from Futureworld the other day, and I noticed some “high tech” special effects from 1976. This brief scene is from a computer lab deep inside the Delos resort, and shows a computer screen operated by one of the Delos staff robots:
The images flashing by through static on that screen immediately reminded me of the video game Frogger, so I first assumed that the Atari 2600 version of Frogger through static and interference is what I was seeing.
But wait, Futureworld was filmed in 1976, and the Atari 2600 version of Frogger wasn’t released until 1982.
Well, I wonder just what I’m seeing on that screen in that case. No matter, on with the female robots!
