Song of the Day – “Three Lock Box” by Sammy Hagar

Videos are stupid.

Just look at this one.  Maybe you don’t see it.  That’s okay, I’m a little weird.  I don’t like TV or movies.  And videos.  But look at that hair.  Yikes!

This is a good song however.  Just don’t pay too much attention to the lyrics.  It’s Sammy Hagar, for crying out loud.  The smartest thing he’s ever said was “I quit” when the old Van Halen soap opera was gearing up for more drama in the 90s.

The Dave years were better.  Sammy is technically a better singer than Dave, but Sammy’s not terribly interesting to watch.

Anyway… this song is about unlocking the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of yourself.  It’s also about drinking lots of alcohol with your friends while driving an automobile.  No, sorry, that’s “Cruisin’ & Boozin’“.  Perhaps it bears repeating not to pay too much attention to Sammy’s lyrics.

This song, as with all of Sammy’s work, falls squarely into music’s “Junk Food” category.  This one is a McRib.  With lots of sauce.

I honestly really like his voice.  And I think it’s a shame that the brothers Van Halen couldn’t be bothered to sound interesting when he was singing with them.  Sophisticated?  Grown up?  Yes, they sounded that way for sure.  But while they were doing that, DLR was flinging boogers their way from the sidelines.  Actually, he was making some decent but also some downright horrid music too.

Don’t watch the lame twerp in this video, just listen to the music.

Okay, welcome back to the real world.  Sorry about that, and I hope I haven’t caused your nervous system too much damage.  That was – as far as these things can be described this way – a David Lee Roth overdose.

See what happens when there’s no producer or band members to rein him in?  He always had kick-ass music videos though.

But that’s not one of his videos.  I don’t know who that dumbass kid is.

Speaking of dumbass kids, I heard that Eddie Van Halen, of doing too many drugs fame, has his son playing bass in the “reunited” Van Halen.  Come on Dave, gimmie a break.

I mean come on Eddie, gimmie a break.

This Eddie is cooler anyway.
