I’ve had this song in my head all day. And not because it’s 4/20 today, appropriate as that is. You may not know this, but Bob Marley was known to partake of the marijuana cigarettes now and again.
Yes, it’s true. And here in 2010 I am displeased to report that consumption and sale of marijuana is still prohibited in most of the world. One day we will come out of the dark ages when it comes to pot. I hope that day comes in my lifetime. I would start smoking weed again if it did. Until then, governments and police will continue to be the best friends that organized crime ever had by keeping their cash cow illegal and thus lucrative.
Some civilized thought is creeping in to the debate, and medical use of marijuana is no longer stigmatized like it used to be. People’s attitudes are changing. Too many people are still stubbornly and stupidly believing bullshit fed to them by the aforementioned governments and police agencies, but as time passes either they will come to see the truth or they will get old and die off. I hope for the first one, but the rest of society is counting on the latter.
This isn’t a very funny post. Sorry. On to discussing the song! This is another B-Side. Can you believe it?! A song this fucking amazing and there was no room on the amazing 1973 album “Catch a Fire” because all the other tracks on that album were deemed amazinger. That’s a new word. I just made it up.
I’m tired and I don’t have much more to say. So listen to the song. And if you smoke pot, light one up for me because it’s been about 6 years since I’ve had any. And who knows how long it will be before I can walk to the liquor store and legally buy some pot for myself.
