Song of the Day – “Hemispheres” by Rush

YEAH!!!

Man, this tune takes me back.  All 18 minutes of it.  See, I’m one of those weirdos who really likes long Progressive Rock songs.  That might stem from all the symphonic Classical Music I listened to when I was growing up.  It might also stem from the fact that I’m just a weirdo.

I’m writing this as I sit on the bus going home from work, so I doubt I will find a YouTube link to share.  We shall see about that.

This song, from a 1978 album called “Hemispheres” is all about duality.  And it tells a story too.  Every picture tells a story donut.

The specter of Rod Stewart haunts us all!

Duality of mind, duality of spirit.  Duality of philosophy.  Cult of Personality.

No, actually.  But Neil Peart, a very interesting and intelligent man, wrote these lyrics about Apollo and Dionysus vying for control over the fate of man.  Should we get busy?  Or should we party down?

Let’s do both actually.  This song even continues the last track from the previous album, 1977’s “A Farewell to Kings”.  You see, (please read this in Bill Cosby‘s voice) this man went through a black hole and ended up in Olympus with all the Greek gods.  They were all LOL WTF?

And he’s like “OH MY FUCKING GODS PLEASE DON’T BOIL ME IN A GIANT POT AND EAT ME ALTHOUGH YOU SURELY CAN”

And they’re all “LOL, CHILL DUDE!”

I’m not so sure Bill Cosby would have explained it like that.

Bus stop, BRB.

And here I am at home.

Looky what I found!

“Hemispheres” part 1

“Hemispheres” part 2

The first link is a live bootleg recording.  Surprisingly good sound quality though.

What the fuck was I going on about Bill Cosby up there for?  Man, I say some stupid shit.  If you have met me, you are nodding in agreement.

I got my Voivod t-shirt in the mail today.  Zoy!  I shall wear it tomorrow, and I shall end up saying “It says ‘Voivod’.  It’s a band.” a lot.

Where does the time go?  Bedtime for me already.  Meh.

ZIP ZOP ZOOBITY BOP!
