Song of the Day – “Surf and Slam” by Suicidal Tendencies

A transition from Skatepunk to Surfpunk is done with ease and grace, I gather.

Now, as I have diligently collected a link for you to watch the video, I noticed that the album cover reminds me of what a fucking coked out spaz their bass player was on this album.

Thats’ him on the right.  He’s all “Hey look at me!  I’m in a band!” in that photo.  And Mike Muir looks like someone I wouldn’t want to cross.  I wonder what he’s up to these days.

(One Wikipedia search later…)

I guess he’s still making tunes.  Good for him.  ST as a group seems to only be a touring entity now, their last album was back in 2000.  The album this song is from, 1988’s “How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can’t Even Smile Today”, is one of those albums that I ingrained into my mind at an early age.  I had a cassette copy from a friend, and side two was slapped onto the C90 before side one was.  So to my mind, “Surf and Slam” is the opening track.

How you digging it?  It’s fucking brilliant.  I say that way too much, but I mean it.  Now I’m reminiscing about my old cassette collection.  Ah, so many cassettes… so much Punk and Thrash Metal.

But I’m glad the medium is obsolete.

That’s about all you can do with them now.
