Songs of the Day – “Cosmic Slop” by Funkadelic and “Amos Moses” by Jerry Reed

Some things just belong together.

Peanut butter and chocolate.

Erica Campbell and lingerie.

The female form and electromechanics.

They match.  They mesh.  They meld.

But here’s a less obvious combo.  You may not see how these two songs fit together at first, but try bashing your head against something hard while holding your breath.  If that doesn’t work, try drinking a bottle of bourbon and then doing that thing where you bend over and put your forehead against a baseball bat and then use the bat as a pole to spin your drunk-on-bourbon ass around about ten times and then try to run in a straight line as fast as you can.

Go do that.  I’ll be right here waiting for you.

Oh, and check out these two links:

“Cosmic Slop” by Funkadelic
“Amos Moses” by Jerry Reed

Are you back yet?  Are you bleeding and/or drunk?  I’ll try to make this quick before you pass out.  At first these two songs seem to have almost nothing in common.  The subject matter is different for both, and the whole “vibe” and “feel” of the music is at nearly polar opposites for something in a Rock/Country style.

But there are similarities.  Both songs use a 4/4 time signature, both feature drums, guitars, basses and vocals.

So here is what I propose you do, in your mind’s ear.  You know, like your mind’s eye, but with your ear instead.  Merge these songs into one.  Go ahead, try to hear “Cosmic Slop” played in the style of “Amos Moses”.  It’s not a mashup, but more like a blended new version.  And it came to me one day as I was reclining here in my swivel chair.

The lyrics remain those of “Cosmic Slop”, but it’s all done in moonshine hillbilly style.  YEEEEE-HAW!!!!

Wouldn’t such a creation be way fucking rad?  I do believe it to be true.

I will now commemorate the sheer, blinding awesome that emanates from this idea by composing a haiku.

Ahem…
